October 8, 2021 – In a move aimed at boosting the economy through tourism, the government has decided to lift the Covid barrier for international travellers by resuming the grant of tourist visas.

The Ministry of Affairs will start granting fresh tourist visas to foreigners coming to India from November 15. For those coming on chartered flights, visas would be granted starting October 15.

The move comes a year and a half after grant of tourist visas was suspended in the wake of Covid pandemic.

The ministry said in a statement that the decision was taken following consultations with stakeholders like the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Tourism and state governments.

“MHA had been receiving representations from several State Governments as well as various stakeholders in the tourism sector to start Tourist Visas also, to allow foreign tourists to come to India. After deliberations we have decided to ease travel restrictions,” a senior Home Ministry official said.

British airways launches its biggest schedule since March 2020

airline news

blank

blank

October 7, 2021 – British Airways is set to welcome back its first A380 aircraft in November and operate its biggest schedule since March 2020, with additional services to cities across the globe, including the US.

British Airways’ A380 will initially operate to a number of short-haul destinations to allow for crew service familiarisation in November, shortly followed by operating to Miami and Los Angeles in the US, as well as Dubai in December.

News that the airline’s A380 aircraft is re-joining its fleet follows the announcement that vaccinated Brits will be able to travel to the United States from November. The airline is set to fly to 23 US airports this winter* with up to 246 flights a week, more than any other transatlantic carrier.

Across its US network, British Airways will be increasing the number of flights it operates with services to city destinations including New York, which will initially be increasing to five a day, followed by eight in December. The airline will also be operating double-daily services to Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, Dallas, Miami and Toronto, as well as daily services to Philadelphia, Phoenix, Seattle, Atlanta, Denver, Houston and Vancouver

In addition to frequency increases, in October and November British Airways will restart services to Austin, Orlando, Tampa, San Diego, Las Vegas and Baltimore **. In December the airline will also start flying to Nashville and New Orleans once again, which both proved to be a hit with customers when they first launched.

Closer to home, British Airways has increased flights to a number of short-haul destinations by adding 13,000 more seats to holiday hot spots for families to get away this October. Popular leisure destinations Marrakech and Dalaman will appear on flight schedules again in time for October half-term, and brand-new services to the Turkish resort of Antalya will also be launching. Looking ahead to the winter, British Airways will be restarting a number of ski destinations including Innsbruck, Grenoble and Salzburg from December.

To help customers get away for some much-needed summer sun this Christmas, British Airways is extending its Caribbean programme with 12 services a week to Barbados and nine each to Antigua and St Lucia, which will be split across Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Flights to popular luxury Indian Ocean destinations, Maldives and Mauritius, will also be increasing to 10 and six per week over the Christmas period.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Director of Network and Alliances, said: “This is an exciting time for British Airways and our customers as we see borders re-opening. With welcome news from the US, we are dramatically increasing flights and bringing home some of our A380s to give our customers as many options as possible. Elsewhere across our network we are also adding additional services to destinations all over the world, to ensure our customers can take advantage of a much-needed holiday.”

Elsewhere across its short-haul network British Airways will be increasing flights year-round to key European cities with 48 weekly services to Amsterdam, 33 to Geneva, 35 to Dublin, 28 to Milan and 21 to Berlin, Paris and Rome.

British Airways’ subsidiary BA City Flyer, is expected to operate a schedule of 43 flights a week to Edinburgh, 33 to Dublin, 25 to Glasgow, 18 to Belfast, 16 to Amsterdam, 15 to Rotterdam, 15 to Berlin, 12 to Frankfurt, 12 to Dusseldorf and 11 to Zurich. The airline is also set to launch a new route from Belfast to Birmingham, as well as new ski destination Salzburg, from London City and Southampton.

To coincide with the increase in services as the world re-opens, the airline’s lounges are also welcoming customers back. In September customers were invited to enjoy British Airways’ Concorde Room in London and New York. Lounges in Chicago, Washington, San Francisco and Houston are expected to open this week.

Customers using exclusive lounges can benefit from exciting new developments, such as the introduction of ‘Your Menu’ – a new initiative developed in the last few months to allow customers to order food and drink directly to their seat by simply scanning a QR code on their mobile device.

The Shay, a Destination by Hyatt hotel, Debuts in Los Angeles

hotel news

October 7, 2021 –  Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) announced today the opening of The Shay, a Destination by Hyatt hotel and the brand’s first urban hotel in Southern California, in the vibrant Culver City district of Los Angeles. The destination-defining property is a central hub for creative camaraderie. Features include loft-like accommodations with luxurious amenities, a sprawling campus with inspiring indoor-outdoor spaces to connect and collaborate during meetings, weddings and events, and an array of community partners that seamlessly blend both guests’ and locals’ experiences.

Thoughtful Design in the Heart of Culver City

The Shay’s relaxed urban interior boasts thoughtfully crafted details like leather-wrapped handrails, patinated metals and native hardwoods that allude to Culver City’s industrious past. Larger spaces such as the lobby, courtyard and roof deck comprise a series of intimate nooks, dens and parlors that seamlessly transition from work to play. A property-wide art collection includes 35 locally commissioned murals, textiles, installations and portraits, each accompanied by a unique QR code that invites visitors to learn more about the artist.

“The Shay is the first hotel in Culver City to celebrate the area’s growing creative community while fully embracing its rich history,” says Ryan Parker, general manager of The Shay. “As an anchor to the Arts District, which encompasses art galleries, coffee bars, trending fitness studios and the re-imagined landmark Helms Bakery building with design boutiques and specialty restaurants, The Shay offers guests a distinct sense of place that honors old and new.”

Adjacent to the Culver City Metro E Line, The Shay offers convenient access to experience all Los Angeles has to offer, from the boardroom to the beach and everything in between. After a productive day exploring the neighborhood or connecting with colleagues, guests find respite in 148 contemporary rooms and suites designed for comfort. All accommodations feature oversized windows, workstations, curated artwork and modern décor that mirror the city’s resourceful spirit. Select suites offer luxuries like wet bars, patios, large soaking tubs, generous living spaces and separate work areas.

Those adding local flair to the hotel’s experience include boutique design agency Studio Collective, whose award-winning portfolio includes downtown LA’s Hotel Figueroa, which is part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand; Culver City-based functional fitness studio Essers; LA-born craft grooming product company Imperial Barber; specialty spa brand milk + honey; and Culver City Art District’s ROSIES Foundation, a non-profit organization that sources employment for those with disabilities.

Distinctive Food & Beverage Offerings

The Shay plays host to two onsite culinary concepts by Michelin-starred chef Danny Grant’s What If Syndicate group, including etta, a wood-fired eatery with indoor-outdoor seating on the ground floor, and Celestina, a high-energy Mexican-inspired restaurant and cocktail bar on the roof deck. What If Syndicate also produces the culinary experiences for meetings, weddings and events.

The Shay boasts Culver City’s first curated rooftop pool experience, offering pop-up events including music shows, comedy sets and yoga classes; a versatile outdoor courtyard that leads into a modern ballroom; and an inviting lobby space featuring a cocktail bar and game room outfitted with eclectic seating and contemporary local art.

Expansive Meetings & Events Spaces

The arrival of companies like Amazon Studios, Apple TV and WarnerMedia to Ivy Station are energizing Culver City more than a century after Thomas Ince built the city’s first film studio where Sony Pictures stands today. The Shay is a co-catalyst for the historic neighborhood’s re-emergence as a destination for creative collaboration with 8,000 square feet of versatile indoor-outdoor event space that takes advantage of Southern California’s year-round idyllic weather. Meeting options include a modern boardroom that opens out into a courtyard with a gazebo and fireplace; a contemporary ballroom that connects to multiple pre-function spaces; and sleek breakout rooms.

Each meeting space nods to the destination with Culver City-inspired names like the Ivy Ballroom, Helms and Hayden Meeting Rooms and Blackwelder Boardroom. “We took a charismatic approach to meeting spaces that brings the spirit of Culver City to the experience,” says Parker. “There’s nothing boring about our boardroom!”

Special Offers

In celebration of its opening, The Shay is offering 50% off all suites and 15% off all standard room rates through the end of the year, and a Bed & Breakfast promotion that includes a full American breakfast for two and late 2:00 pm checkout. For more information about The Shay, terms of these offers, or to book a stay, please visit www.theshayhotel.com or follow @TheShayCulverCity on Instagram.

As part of Budapest Airport’s strategy to further develop its route network in Africa and Asia, the Hungarian gateway has confirmed three new services with Wizz Air for W21/22. Launching in December, the ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) will commence highly desired links to Amman, Aqaba and Hurghada.

Budapest first saw Amman join its destination map in 2018, witnessing immediate demand on the service to Western Asia. With Wizz Air’s latest announcement, the airport’s capacity to Jordan’s main gateway will increase from 17 December 2021 with a twice-weekly service. Complementing its operation to the Jordanian capital, the ULCC will also launch a twice-weekly link to Aqaba from 16 December 2021, the Red Sea Coast being a hugely sought-after destination.

In addition to boosting Budapest’s Asian network, the home-based airline has confirmed a weekly flight to Hurghada, Egypt’s second busiest airport. Increasing the airport’s capacity to Africa, the carrier will commence links to the vastly important destination for European leisure flights on 18 December 2021. Wizz Air’s new service will join the airport’s existing links to Cairo and Hurghada, seeing Budapest offer 198 flights to the popular winter holiday resorts during W21/22.

Balázs Bogáts, Head of Airline Development, Budapest Airport comments: “We are over-the-moon that one of our biggest airline partner has decided to add to our destinations in Africa and Asia. Wizz Air’s new schedules make for an ideal week vacation to Egypt, or the perfect short getaway to Jordan to take in the enchantment of the Red Sea.” Bogáts adds: “The confirmation of Wizz Air’s new flights comes at the perfect time as we start to witness the increase in demand for winter breaks. Our customers’ confidence has returned and we have no doubt in the popularity of these routes.”

October 6, 2021 – Alaska Airlines has announced a new codeshare agreement with Iberia Airlines, a fellow member of the oneworld alliance, further strengthening the existing partnership between the two airlines by providing flyers with convenient travel options.

The agreement allows passengers on Iberia to book travel and connect to more than 40 routes throughout Alaska’s network for travel on or after October 7, 2021. On the West Coast, Iberia has nonstop service between Los Angeles and its Madrid hub, and seasonal service between San Francisco and Barcelona enabling seamless connectivity to the Alaska network beyond both California cities.

Alaska launched its partnership with Iberia on March 31, 2021, the same day Alaska formally became a member of the oneworld global alliance, an alliance of 14 global airlines. The partnership with Iberia enables Alaska’s “Mileage Plan” members to earn miles on Iberia flights and features reciprocal elite benefits, including preferred seat selection; priority check-in, security clearance and boarding; lounge access; and extra baggage allowance, with further enhancements coming over the next several months. Iberia has been a member of oneworld since 1999.

For everyone’s safety on board, Alaska continues to enforce the federally mandated mask policy, even for those who are fully vaccinated.

With oneworld and its additional airline partners, Alaska guests can fly to as many as 1,000 destinations around the world. Flyers can also earn and redeem miles with the “Mileage Plan” program to fly on more than 20 oneworld and partner airlines.

WIZZ AIR resumes flights from Kiev and Odessa

airline news

blank

October 6, 2021 – Wizz Air, Europe’s fastest-growing airline, is delighted to announce the resumption of Kyiv-Katowice, Kyiv-Naples, and Odesa-Abu-Dhabi routes. Starting from October Ukrainian passengers can enjoy these exciting destinations with a convenient WIZZ schedule and attractive fares starting from UAH 339/EUR 9.99. All keen explorers can already book tickets to these destinations on wizzair.com and via WIZZ mobile app.

From October 4, on the resumed Kyiv-Katowice route, Ukrainian travelers will have a fantastic opportunity to discover the thriving arts scene of Katowice, while visitors from Poland will have a chance to acquaint themselves with Kyiv’s historical landmarks. Alternatively, from October 6, travelers from the Ukrainian capital can escape the chilly Ukrainian weather by catching some rays in the South of Italy – Naples. Travelers from Odesa can also enjoy the warmth and explore the capital of UAE with the relaunched Wizz Air Abu Dhabi flight, which will operate starting October 7.

As travel restrictions can change, Wizz Air advises passengers to check travel regulations prior to the start of their trip. WIZZ Travel Planning Map helps passengers to check current travel restrictions within the Wizz Air network. The color-coded site is now optimized for mobile use and lays out a comprehensive map of possible destinations Ukrainians can embark on, with relevant links to government websites, travel pages, and any forms that have to be filled out prior to departure.

Additionally, to ensure a comfortable travel experience, Wizz Air offers its passengers a variety of services. Thus, by adding WIZZ Flex to a booking, passengers can rest assured that if circumstances change, or they simply wish to travel on a different date or to a new destination, they can rebook on any WIZZ flight of their choice.

To help passengers and crew travel safely and worry-free, Wizz Air has implemented additional hygiene measures to support social distancing throughout boarding and embarkment. In order to reduce non-essential interaction at the airport, customers are advised to check in and make any purchases online, such as paying for additional bags. As countries begin to relax restrictions, it is vital to note that passengers must adhere to the mask-wearing regulations on all Wizz Air aircraft as part of WIZZ safety measures.

Paulina Gosk, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, said: “We are delighted to announce the resumption of several routes from Kyiv and Odesа starting this October. By expanding our route network, we can support Ukrainian travellers with well-deserved getaways on numerous destinations such as Katowice, Naples and Abu Dhabi. Our crew is looking forward to seeing passengers on board of our young and modern fleet so we can make their travels exceptional this fall.”

Australia travel ban lifting but cruising remains in limbo

cruise news

blank

October 5, 2021 -The ban on international travel is set to be lifted in November for fully vaccinated Australians, however cruising from Australia is still in limbo.

Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison said first dose vaccination rates are over 78% and double dose rates nationwide are at 55% and on track to reach 70% in some jurisdictions over the next week.

Biosecurity update

He said the minister for health will consider updating the human biosecurity emergency period which has been in place since March 18, 2020, and extended until December 17.

He said the government wants to remove current travel restrictions related to COVID-19 a month earlier so that fully vaccinated Australians will be able to enter and leave the country in November.

Time to take the next step

‘Many countries around the world have now safely reopened to international travel and it will shortly be time for Australia to take the next step,’ he said.

‘In line with the National Plan, our government is balancing the need to minimise the risk that the spread of COV1D-19 presents, with the need to live with the virus.’

Cruise Lines International Association Australasia MD Joel Katz said Friday’s announcement on the opening of international travel was welcome news for many parts of the Australian travel industry.

However, Katz said Australia is now one of the only major cruise markets in the world with no clear plan for cruising’s revival.

Etihad launches flights to Johannesburg, Cape Town and Zanzibar

airline news

October 5, 2021 – Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – Etihad Airways today announced three new quarantine-free destinations for the coming winter season. This November, the airline will begin flying to Johannesburg and Cape Town in South Africa, and the beautiful Indian Ocean island of Zanzibar. The new additions to Etihad’s network mean the UAE’s national carrier will be operating to 70 destinations across 47 countries.

Etihad Airways has launched a sale on fares to Johannesburg, Cape Town and Zanzibar, valid until midnight on 6 October 2021. Available on a first come, first served basis, guests can enjoy return fares starting from AED 995 in Economy and AED 3995 in Business class.

Tony Douglas, Group Chief Executive Officer, Etihad, said: “We’re proud to be launching Etihad’s newest destinations in Africa this winter and we’re confident our guests will find they are all incredible places to visit.

“Johannesburg is an important route on our network and offers vital connectivity to and from the southern African region. On the southern coast, Cape Town is a breathtaking part of the world, with something to offer the most discerning traveller. Likewise, the beautiful island of Zanzibar will complement our network to the Maldives and Seychelles offering more choice for leisure travellers looking to enjoy the glorious Indian ocean.

“We are also thrilled to offer connectivity for travellers from both countries to visit our home the UAE over the winter months. With the world’s greatest show, Expo 2020, opening now there has never been a better time to visit Abu Dhabi and the UAE.”

Etihad will start flights to Johannesburg, South Africa’s biggest city, from 25 November. At the same time, Etihad will launch its operation to the stunning coastal city of Cape Town. Both destinations will operate three times per week on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The route will be serviced by Etihad’s flagship and most-sustainable aircraft, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, with 28 Business Studios, 78 Economy Space seats and 184 Economy seats.

The new service to Zanzibar will operate from 26 November giving residents in the UAE the ideal winter holiday. The route will also offer easy connectivity for guests travelling from Europe and North America and transiting through Abu Dhabi. The scheduled flights will operate on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays on the airline’s Airbus A320 aircraft offering 8 seats in Business and 150 seats in Economy.

Guests flying with Etihad can fly with complete peace of mind thanks to the Etihad Wellness programme, which includes complimentary COVID-19 insurance, valid for travel until 31 March 2022, for all passengers. The airline’s innovative Verified to Fly service also simplifies the process of authenticating travel documents before travel. With Verified to Fly travellers can validate their documents before arriving at the airport, giving them the confidence that they have met all essential government and airline travel requirements before travelling to the airport.

Etihad was the first airline in the world to fully vaccinate its crew on board. The airline also requires 100% of its passengers to show a negative PCR test before boarding which protects the inflight environment, now recognised to be one of the best in the world. Consequently, Etihad was awarded Diamond status at the inaugural APEX Health Safety powered by SimpliFlying audit in January 2021.
