February 28, 2022 – Wyndham expands globally

World’s largest hotel franchising company continues its growth trajectory across the region with new openings and brand entries

Wyndham expands: the world’s largest hotel franchising company with approximately 9,000 hotels across nearly 95 countries, continues to expand across Europe, Middle East, Eurasia and Africa (EMEA) with a number of recent hotel launches and a strong line-up of openings expected in 2022.

Wyndham expands globally

In 2021 Wyndham achieved nearly 70 new hotel signings across EMEA and a host of exciting openings. In addition, the company launched several multi-faceted initiatives to support and empower hotel partners across EMEA to innovate and respond to changes in demand and on-going travel restrictions.

In Europe, Wyndham furthered its footprint of over 300 hotels with the addition of 12 resorts in sought-after destinations including Turkey’s Aegean coast, Spain’s Costa del Sol, the beautiful island of Tenerife, secluded country estates in the UK and the Austrian Alps, all offering a range of options for guests seeking to combine business and leisure. The European growth trajectory also included important openings in key cities, such as the expansion of the upper-upscale Dolce Hotels and Resorts by Wyndham brand in Denmark with stylish hotels in Copenhagen and Odense and the launch of Trademark Collection by Wyndham through more conversions in Budapest, Bucharest, Thessaloniki, Brussels, Manchester and Sheffield.

Turkey saw a continuation of growth as Wyndham further cemented its position as the largest international hotel company by number of properties, reaching nearly 90 hotels with new openings across the country, as well as the debut of its economy brand Days Inn in Istanbul and Ankara.

In the Middle East, Wyndham continued to bring more accommodation options to Dubai, as the city officially welcomed the highly anticipated Expo 2020 global exhibition, with more openings under the Howard Johnson, Ramada, as well as the La Quinta and Days Inn by Wyndham brands, both launched in the market for the first time in 2021. Wyndham also bolstered its leisure offering in Oman with the launch of Wyndham Garden Salalah Mirbat, a waterfront resort in a popular destination in the Sultanate.

In India, Wyndham reached its 50th hotel mark, with new openings in culturally rich destinations including Jaipur, Varanasi, Mohali and Udaipur under the Ramada, Howard Johnson by Wyndham and the upscale Wyndham brand. The expansion is part of Wyndham’s commitment to growth for the sub-Indian continent with a development pipeline of approximately 30 hotels, with eight expected to open in 2022 alone.

Other EMEA highlights included the steady expansion of Ramada by Wyndham brand with an additional 18 new hotels across the region, including a broad range of destinations from Georgia (Tbilisi), the UK (Cheltenham), Romania (Targu Jiu), and more.

Dimitris Manikis, President EMEA, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, said: “We are proud to look back on what Wyndham has achieved across EMEA, despite the on-going challenges and disruption in the travel industry. We focused on strengthening our fruitful partnerships, adding more exciting destinations, and broadening the reach of our brands. Our growth is ultimately a testament to the resilience of our hotel partners and the value proposition Wyndham delivers to them. We are delighted to offer even more exciting hotels for our guests and look forward to working with our partners and teams across EMEA in 2022 and beyond.”

Some of the upcoming openings in 2022 will include:

• Wyndham’s first entry into Poland with the upscale Wyndham Wroclaw Old Town, slated to open this month. The hotel will feature 205 stylish guest rooms and a host of amenities in a central location near plenty of attractions and landmarks.

• Wyndham Garden Munich Messe in Germany, which will offer 267 modern guest rooms in the business district of the city. Recently opened, the hotel will add to the existing portfolio of 11 hotels in Munich from economy to upscale.

• Further growth of the Super 8 brand in Germany, with the 10th hotel under the brand to open in Koblenz in June in collaboration with GS Star.

• More additions under the Ramada, Ramada Encore and Days Inn by Wyndham brands in Turkey with new additions in Istanbul, Rize, Elbistan and more.

• Wyndham will open its TRYP brand for the first time in Greece with a stylish hotel in Corfu. Expected to open in April, TRYP by Wyndham Corfu Dassia will offer 48 rooms, contemporary interiors, and lush gardens.

• The debut of the Wyndham’s namesake brand in Cyprus with the upscale Wyndham Nicosia. The hotel will offer elegant accommodation in Nicosia’s main square, alongside several leisure amenities and conference space.

• Continued expansion in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Georgia, including the highly anticipated Grigoleti Beach Resort, a new construction build, marking the first Trademark in the market.

• Additional development in the Middle East with the 278-room Wyndham Grand Doha West Bay Beach in Qatar, along with two more openings in Saudi Arabia.

• Further growth in India including Ramada by Wyndham Gangtok Hotel & Golden Casino in Gangtok City, featuring stunning views of the Himalayan range, and the launch of the 300-room Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Mumbai Sahar offering guests comfortable accommodations and direct accessibility to the second busiest airport in the country.

In 2021, Wyndham launched several new initiatives to support its EMEA hotel partners through the recovery, including a new host of revenue management tools rolled out with technology expert OTA Insight. The company also launched a new talent engagement program with educational sessions, podcasts, videos, and more resources to help hotel partners in EMEA attract, nurture, and retain team members.

February 28, 2022 – Fully-vaccinated tourists arriving in Dubai will no-longer need to show a negative PCR test as the emirate loosens Covid-19 travel restrictions.

Dubai removes PCR test requirement for tourists

Instead, passengers will only be required to present an approved vaccination certificate, complete with QR code.

However, PCR requirements will remain in place for unvaccinated travellers, who will need to provide a negative PCR test conducted within 48 hours of departure.

Authorities also confirmed the wearing of masks outdoors is now optional in Dubai and throughout the UAE, though it remains mandatory across indoor public spaces.

Restaurants have also returned to 100 per cent capacity for the first time since the start of 2020.

Shisha cafés are also back to 100 per cent capacity, but as per United Arab Emirates’ law, smoking areas must allow space for two square metres per person.

In response to the change, Dubai-based Emirates said passengers flying to the holiday hotspot would now only need proof of vaccination, rather than a negative PCR test.

In Abu Dhabi, the National Emergency Crisis & Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) has removed the green list for travel.

The requirement for a green Al Hosn pass to cross the border between Abu Dhabi and Dubai has also been scrapped.

The pass remains a requirement for those wishing to enter public spaces, such as malls and restaurants.

The news comes as the United Arab Emirates sees a significant decrease in Covid-19 cases combined with high vaccination and booster jab rates.

Taiwan_to_open_borders_to_travellers_in_March

February 25, 2022 – Taiwan announced plans on to reopen to business travellers and shorten quarantine for all arrivals, slightly loosening restrictions in one of the few places alongside China still pursuing a zero-Covid strategy.A mask mandate and some other restrictions will also be eased from March 1, authorities said.

Taiwan to open borders to travellers in March

The island was hailed for keeping Covid-19 at bay for the first year of the pandemic, but an outbreak detected last April forced Taipei to implement economically painful restrictions. That included banning all foreign visitors, with the exception of a few categories such as residency holders and diplomats, since a surge in local infections last May.

Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Centre (CECC) said that restrictions would ease beginning early March for foreigners coming in for business purposes, including inspection, investment, employment or fulfilling contractual obligations.

“We will open to foreign business people starting March 7 in line with some relaxations in the overall pandemic prevention measures,” said Chen Tsung-yen, deputy head of the CECC. Currently, Chinese, Hong Kong and Macau residents can only apply for entry to fulfil business contracts or due to transferrals within multinational companies.

Tour the amazing Riviera Maya including Rio Secreto

The wonderful nature reserve of Rio Secreto is home to a cave filled with stalactites and stalagmites, hidden for centuries. As the story goes, a local farmer found the entrance while chasing an iguana, discovering a dazzling series of chambers, with rock formations dating back 2.5 million years.

Come with us on a magical journey through the crystal museum that is Río Secreto, where the history of our planet is written on the myriad geological formations, and where floating in its clear fresh water your life will change forever.

Tour the amazing Riviera Maya including Rio Secreto

Río Secreto could very well be one of the great world wonders. Experience this stunning underground river with thousands of dramatic stalactites and stalagmites. It’s like stepping back in time to witness something mysterious and truly spectacular.

We will walk, swim and rapel through the cavern. At times, it is so dark you feel like you’re totally blind.

Often lauded as one of the best kept secrets on the Yucatan Peninsula, Río Secreto (or Secret River) is an underground river and collection of caves. The bright turquoise water contrasts with the caramel- and mocha-colored rock formations within the caves, which include stalactites and stalagmites. Visitors can swim in the river, climb through the caves and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

Recent travelers said this adventure was the highlight of their trip to Playa del Carmen, noting that the tour was fascinating and that they learned a lot about the Mayans and the land’s natural history. Many also said this is a great rainy day activity since most of the exploration occurs underground. One gripe among reviewers: Visitors are not allowed to bring their cameras. Though a staff photographer is following you around and you have the option to purchase photos at the end of the tour, travelers said the photos are overpriced. If you don’t have a wetsuit or water shoes, you can rent them through the company that runs the attraction.

Río Secreto is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

Finally, we’ll enjoy a cocktail in the breath-taking Salon de la Paz cave.

London City to relaunch Milan Linate connection

February  25, 2022 – London City Airport (LCY) is preparing for the return of flights to Milan Linate, as the city-centre hub seizes on pent-up consumer demand to revitalise its short-haul connections.

London City to relaunch Milan Linate connection

ITA Airways, Italy’s flag-carrier, will begin operating a triple-daily service (18 weekly) from LCY to Milan Linate Airport from March 28th.

The move to restart flights follows the European Council’s recommendation that all fully vaccinated British travellers will be allowed into the European Union (EU) without pre-departure tests.

Children aged six to 18 who have not been fully vaccinated will also be allowed to travel into EU countries provided they have a negative pre-departure PCR test.

The route cements tourist and business links between two of Europe’s primary financial hubs.

At its peak in 2018, 360,000 passengers flew between the airports, particularly business travellers from large corporations, including JP Morgan, Barclays and Credit Suisse.

The re-opening of one of London City’s most popular routes is the latest show of confidence in the resilience of its key leisure and business network.

The airport is reinstating 95 per cent of its top-performing pre-pandemic routes.

Barcelona will return to the network for the first time in almost a decade, while new routes, such as Thessaloniki, join established summer favourites like Split, Mykonos and Faro for summer 2022.

London City Airport chief commercial officer, Richard Hill, said: “We’re delighted to announce the return of flights to Milan, which has historically been one of the most popular business and leisure destinations from our airport.

“Our recovery is going from strength to strength, as the sector builds back confidence after a difficult period for aviation and international travel. We’re so excited to be able to help quench passengers’ untapped thirst for travel this summer.”

February  23, 2022 – Air Canada has announced an expanded international summer schedule, with 34 routes relaunching across the Atlantic and Pacific.

Air Canada confirms significant network additions

Starting next month, non-stop services will begin resuming from Toronto to Tel Aviv, Paris, Tokyo and Amsterdam, signs that recovery is well underway.

Service from Montreal to Casablanca, Nice, Algiers, Rome, Tel Aviv and Tokyo will also be resuming.

From Vancouver, Air Canada will be offering service to Frankfurt, Dublin and Zurich.

Air Canada is also relaunching service to popular tourist destinations such as Barcelona, Budapest, Copenhagen, Madrid, Milan, and Venice, which have been suspended since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.

“Air Canada’s recovery is well underway and gaining strength, and we are pleased to expand our international network across four continents as we respond to pent-up
demand.

“Our vast and growing network has been built to conveniently increase connectivity to and from global destinations through our Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver hubs.

“Combined with the networks of our Joint Venture and Star Alliance partners, we can offer customers easy access to virtually any destination in the world,” said Mark Galardo, senior vice president, network planning and revenue management at Air Canada.

The relaunch of international routes builds on Air Canada’s major expansion in the North American market, where seven new routes are scheduled for summer 2022 and 41 previously suspended routes are resuming.

Flights are timed to optimise connectivity to Air Canada’s extensive North American network, including 46 airports in the United States.
