Ice cave tour in Iceland

Visiting a natural ice cave in Iceland has never been this easy. The trip departs on super jeeps from the charming village of Vík throught the black desert of Mýrdalssandur onwards to Kötlujökull. Kötlujökull is a large outlet glacier of Mýrdalsjökull, Iceland’s 4th largest glacier.

The trip will take around 30-60 minutes and it takes you through a beautiful and otherworldly area that has been used for filming TV shows and movies such as Game of Thrones and Star Wars: Rouge One.

You’ll see powerful glacial rivers, vast stretches of black sandy plains, beautiful green promontories like Hafursey and Hjörleifshöfði rising up from the desert and the beautiful mountain ranges and glacier that make up the area of the volcano Katla. Upon arrival to the glacier you’ll be geared up to walk towards the Ice Caves, a easy walk of 5-15 minutes.

You will spend around 45-60 minutes exploring the glacier and ice cave and the local guide will give you insight and information about the formation of the ice caves and the glacier itself. Afterwards the it’s time for returning back to Vík.

Soul of Bali tour

The sea-side temple of Tanah Lot has been defying the pounding waves for centuries. It sits on a rocky outcrop right in the surf of the Indian ocean, where it crashes into Bali’s western shore. The landmark temple was built to commemorate the spread of Hinduism from Java to Bali many centuries ago.

More about Soul of Bali tour

The temple, consisting of several shrines, protected by poisonous black snakes, is modest but as the tide rushes in and the islet becomes completely surrounded by water, the place becomes a mysterious spot. The views from the cliff that rises from the nearby beach, are truly awesome.

Then we continue to Jatiluwih where you will marvel at the terraces of a startlingly beautiful area of terraced rice paddies nestled in the shadow of Mount Batukaru, the second highest peak of Bali. The rice fields here date back a thousand years and have been painstakingly maintained by the Balinese over the centuries.

Back in 2007 this area became a UNESCO
world heritage site, because of its relevance to Balinese culture. Rice cultivation and societal organization are intertwined Bali. What the visitor will remember are stunning views over green-glowing fields that seem to stretch as far as the eye can see.

Before hitting the road back to the south, you’ll do a gentle trekking. Walk downhill along the most beautiful rice fields anywhere in the world. It is a great way to take in the magnificent sloping terraces surrounding you from all sides.

At the end point of your track, a lonely temple safeguards a unique Linga Yoni, the distinctive symbol of the God Shiva, resting on a disc shaped platform. It sits in the innermost sanctum of a lonely temple, on a shrine that cannot be approached by just anyone. Even those who do so, do not dare to touch this magic object of worship. We have selected a variety of local sweets and fruits to be enjoyed on the field in front of the temple. After this break, we head back to the south.

Wine tasting in Chile

Rosario Valley is a subdivision of San Antonio Valley. San Antonio is a new discovery of Chile´s wine regions with exciting potential. San Antonio, which includes the now-famous Leyda zone, is one of the one of Chile’s smallest viticultural areas. With vineyards as close as 4 km (2.5 mi) from the sea, it is also the most maritime region. For wine tourists, this wine region is yet to be developed. There isn´t a wine route but there are some interesting offers for those with an eye for the extraordinary.

The San Antonio Valley might just be a speck of a region between the Pacific Coast and the Maipo Valley, but it produces some of Chile’s best Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Since 2002, this region is one of several recognized wine-producing areas with the official seal D.O. (Denominación de Origen).

You can live a unique experience through its Winemaker Experience Tour, an entertaining panorama in which participants can become winemakers for a day, using the same implements found in oenology laboratories, to create their own own wines.

On this excursion we will have the unique experience of discovering the essence of the Chilean countryside. We will visit the renowned Matetic Vineyard in the Rosario Valley, a subdivision of the San Antonio Valley. This completely enclosed valley, which is 9,000 hectares in length and perpendicular to the ocean, features extraordinary light and possesses the ideal climatic and topographic conditions for both red and white wines. The first 90 planted hectares are in all-organic soils. While visiting the estate we will have the exclusive opportunity to bike, trek or horseback through this vineyard surrounded by native trees, grapevines and local fauna. After the excursion and fresh air, we will then tour the Corralillo wine cellar full of splendor and aged barrels where we will enjoy a wine tasting with Chocolate shots, a choise of two of small chocolate cups filled either Syrah, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir or Gewurztraminer of the Corralillo or EQ line. The exciting day will be concluded with a spectacular lunch at the estates Equilibrio’s restaurant.

December 6, 2021 – Wasserturm Hotel Cologne – Curio Collection by Hilton Opens Cologne Hotel in Iconic Former Water Tower

Wasserturm Hotel Cologne

Located in the heart of the city, Wasserturm Hotel Cologne, Curio Collection by Hilton, offers sweeping views of the city from its rooftop bar

COLOGNE, Germany – Hilton (NYSE: HLT) recently celebrated the opening of the Wasserturm Hotel Cologne, Curio Collection by Hilton, housed in what was once the tallest water tower in Europe. The historic building, owned by Aroundtown, Germany’s largest listed commercial real estate company, is now home to 88 guest rooms and suites, a spa, gym, and three bars and restaurants.  It is located less than five minutes from major attractions such as the cathedral, Cologne Chocolate Museum, and the Rhine.

David Kelly, senior vice president, Continental Europe, Hilton, said, “Wasserturm Hotel Cologne joins a growing number of Curio Collection by Hilton hotels in Europe, a portfolio that is expected to more than double in the coming years. This hotel, with its imposing structure, tasteful design, and elevated guest offering, is a perfect addition to that collection. As both a centre of commerce and a popular tourist destination, travellers will be well poised at this enviably located hotel to take advantage of all Cologne has to offer.”

A Cologne icon reinterpreted

The Wasserturm Hotel Cologne presents itself as a work of art that always has new, unexpected discoveries in store. Designed by internationally awarded design studio Goddard Littlefair, this ethos can be felt as soon as you enter the characterful 11-metre-high lobby, where you are greeted warmly and casually in true Cologne style. The hotel’s design contrasts formidable brickwork, lofty ceilings, and geometric patterns with contemporary elegance and touches of down-to-earth charm throughout.

A hotel experience of a different kind

At the heart of the water tower is a round hub, leading guests to the lounge and adjacent winter garden. Here, hotel guests can start the day with a breakfast of regional delicacies, freshly baked bread, and homemade jams. It is also characterised by its particularly inviting interior and warm ambience. From here, you can enjoy a direct view of the private garden, which wraps around the entire hotel like a green ring and helps to create a calm oasis in the city.  Also with access to the private garden are the hotel’s nine fully-flexible event and meeting rooms, which combine to make 500 square metres of event space.

On a voyage of discovery over 11 floors

As the lift traverses the water tower’s 11 floors, guests move past the rooms and suites, all with state-of-the-art furnishings, and Tapps, the hotel’s spa and gym, complete with treatment rooms, sauna, and training equipment. On the 11th floor, the top of Wasserturm Hotel Cologne, guests can experience a whole new view of the city at a height of 35 metres. The intriguing and atmospheric Bar Botanik is where botany, plants, herbal and floral aromas meet industrial chic and Cologne air. As the new ultimate hotspot for cocktail lovers, the rooftop Bar Botanik represents the bar culture and trendy Cologne society scene. This is where Cologne and its visitors feel equally at home – an atmospheric mix that can only be topped by the breathtaking panoramic view.

Jörg Schiffmann, area vice president, GCH Hotel Group, says: “A hotel in Europe’s largest former water tower is unique, but a visit to the Wasserturm Hotel Cologne will be so much more. Here, a door is opened into a world of experiences that exceeds all expectations.”

The hotel is part of Hilton Honors, the award-winning guest-loyalty programme for Hilton’s 18 distinct hotel brands. Hilton Honors members who book directly through preferred Hilton channels have access to instant benefits including a flexible payment slider that allows members to choose nearly any combination of Points and money to book a stay, exclusive member discounts, free standard Wi-Fi and access to the Hilton Honors mobile app.

Wasserturm Hotel Cologne, Curio Collection by Hilton, is located at Kaygasse 2, 50676 Köln and is managed by GCH Hotel Group. For more information and reservations, travellers may visit the official website or call +49 (0)221 2008 0. The hotel joins 22 Curio Collection by Hilton hotels operating in Europe, including The Fellows House Cambridge, Curio Collection by Hilton, and Baia Chia Laguna Resort, Curio Collection by Hilton, both of which opened earlier this year.

Nightly room rates start from €108 per night or Hilton Honors members can redeem points using the Points Explorer tool.

“In honor of the holiday season where we take the opportunity to think about all that we’re grateful for, I speak on behalf of each of our entire team when I say that we truly appreciate our continued partnership with the travel advisor community.

We are maintaining commission tiers through 2023 as one more way to thank them for their support over this last year by providing peace of mind and confidence knowing their efforts will be compensated at the rate they have worked so hard to earn.”

Carnival Cruise Line, Cunard, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and Seabourn are members of Carnival Corporation’s World’s Leading Cruise Lines family of nine cruise brands, which also includes AIDA Cruises, Costa Cruises, P&O Cruises Australia, and P&O Cruises UK.

December 03 2021 –

Australian ‘Summer of Tennis 2022’ schedule announced, Australian Open from Jan 17

Tennis Australia announced its “Summer of Tennis” on Thursday, which would include a host of events across several states in the lead-up to the Australian Open 2022.

Ahead of the tournament, beginning officially on January 17, a total of 17 events will be held in the states of New South Wales (NSW), South Australia, and Victoria.

Among the warm-up tournaments announced was the ATP Cup, which was confirmed to be hosted by Sydney from January 1-9.

“There is no better place to kick off the season than in Australia and we look forward to seeing the fans out in force in January,” said ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi.

Other headline events include the Victorian Wheelchair open from January 8-12, and the Adelaide International women`s events beginning January 2.

Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley said the line-up was designed to create numerous competition opportunities for some of the best players in the world.

“It`s incredibly important to have the world`s best players competing across the country, inspiring the next generation of players and growing interest and excitement in our sport,” he said.

The series of events is set to be one of Australia`s largest international events since it closed its borders due to the pandemic and would be a boon for crippled local economies.

Tiley said the pandemic has created a “massive challenge” for the event: “It`s why we waited as long as possible to secure optimal conditions for the players and fans in as many locations as we could.”

The qualifying round for the Australian Open would run from January 10-14 and the main event would run from Jan 17-30.

Tennis Australia has previously announced that unvaccinated players would not be permitted to compete in the 2022 Australian Open.

Updated travel advice USA – Foreign travelers to U.S. must now be tested 1 day before travel

Updated Travel Advice USA

December 3, 2021 – Updated travel advice USA – The United States is planning to make its travel requirements even stricter in the face of the spreading Omicron variant. According to Bloomberg, the Biden Administration will require all air travelers to the U.S. to be tested within a day of their departure regardless of vaccination status.

Updated Travel Advice USA

President Joe Biden is expected to detail the new requirements in a speech on Thursday. The current policy states that inbound travelers to the U.S. —vaccinated and vaccinated alike—might get tested for COVID-19 within three days of travel.

Earlier this week, the U.S. banned travel on foreign nationals who had traveled through South AfricaBotswanaZimbabweNamibiaLesothoEswatiniMozambique and Malawi in the past 14 days.

U.S. Travel Association executive vice president of public affairs and policy Tori Emerson Barnes issued the following statement following the announcement: “We hope this measure to narrow the pre-departure testing window will be temporary until more is learned about the Omicron variant. In the meantime, the travel industry urges everyone to get vaccinated and boosted as soon as possible.

“It has long been known that measures to combat the virus and its variants would evolve and require us to be nimble and adapt.

“It is critically important that we communicate these policy changes clearly to global travelers and continue to welcome all qualified visitors to the United States.”

Germany, on the other hand, announced a nationwide lockdown on those who remain unvaccinated, with plans for mandatory vaccinations coming soon. According to BBC, unvaccinated people will be banned from accessing all but the most essential businesses, such as supermarkets and pharmacies; they will be barred from restaurants, cinemas, leisure facilities and many shops.

Costa Toscana, New LNG-Powered Ship for sustainability – first cruise in March

cruise news

December 3, 2021 –Costa Toscana – Costa Cruises Takes Delivery of Costa Toscana, New LNG-Powered Ship

Costa Cruises confirms its commitment to sustainable innovation, with the Costa Group’s third ship powered by liquefied natural gas, the most advanced technology  available in the maritime industry to reduce emissions.

Costa Toscana

Costa Toscana’s first cruise will depart on 5 March 2022 from Savona, with a one-week itinerary in the Western Mediterranean.

At the Meyer shipyard in Turku (Finland), Costa Cruises has taken delivery of its newest ship,  Costa Toscana,  powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), the maritime sector’s most advanced technology for reducing emissions.

The Costa Group – which includes the Costa Cruises and AIDA Cruises brands – was the first in the world to pioneer  liquefied natural gas on cruise ships. Its LNG-powered ships include AIDAnova and Costa Smeralda, already in service; Costa Toscana, delivered today; and AIDACosma, coming soon.
LNG represents a breakthrough in improving the environmental performance of cruise ships, both at sea and during calls in ports. Its use enables the almost complete elimination of sulfur oxide emissions (zero emissions) and particulate matter (95-100% reduction), while also significantly reducing nitrogen oxide emissions (direct reduction of 85%) and CO2 (reduction of up to 20%).

“Costa Toscana reinforces our commitment to sustainable  innovation by further contributing to the use of LNG applied to cruise ships, a technology that we pioneered. It is an innovation that is part of a constantly evolving path of ecological transition. Indeed, we are also working on testing further innovations, such as fuel cells and batteries, with the aim of eventually achieving  the first cruise ship with net zero emissions,” – said Mario Zanetti, President of Costa Cruises. “At the same time, thanks to her excellent and innovative features and services, Costa Toscana will be able to attract new cruise guests,  supporting us in consolidating our presence in the Mediterranean and our gradual restart plan”.

Costa Toscana’s first cruise will depart from Savona, Italy, on March 5, 2022, with a week-long itinerary visiting Marseille, Barcelona, Valencia, Palermo and Civitavecchia/Rome. Following her debut, the new flagship will remain deployed in the Western Mediterranean throughout the year. During the summer season, she will call at Savona, Civitavecchia/Rome, Naples, Ibiza, Valencia, Marseille, while during the autumn season Palma de Mallorca will replace Ibiza.

Costa Toscana is a veritable travelling “smart city“. In addition to  being powered by LNG, the ship features a series of cutting-edge technological innovations designed to further reduce environmental impact. The entire daily water requirement is met by transforming seawater using desalination plants. Energy consumption is minimized thanks to an intelligent energy efficiency system. In addition, 100% separate waste collection and recycling of materials such as plastic, paper, glass and aluminum will be carried out on board, as part of an integrated approach aimed at implementing circular economy projects.

The driftwood used to furnish the islands of the new Archipelago restaurant has been collected thanks to the “Guardians of the Coast“, the environmental education program for the protection of the Italian coastline promoted by the Costa Crociere Foundation. For every dinner served at Archipelago, Costa Cruises will donate part of the proceeds to the Costa Cruises Foundation to support environmental and social projects.

Costa’s new flagship is a tribute to Tuscany, the result of an extraordinary creative project, curated by Adam D. Tihany, designed to enhance and bring to life in a single location the best of this wonderful Italian region, which gives its name to the ship, its decks and main public areas.

The furnishings, lighting, fabrics and accessories are all Made in Italy, and have been designed specifically for the Costa Toscana by 15 partners who are highly representative of Italian excellence. The on-board offer will fit perfectly into this extraordinary context: from the Solemio Spa to the entertainment areas; from the themed bars, in collaboration with major Italian and international brands, to the 21 restaurants and areas dedicated to the “food experience”.

Comfortable and elegant, the over 2,600 cabins also perfectly reflect Italian style and taste. The “terrace over the sea” cabin’s category will offer a splendid outbuilding where guests can have breakfast, sip an aperitif or simply enjoy the view.

tommie Hollywood Hyatt opens in Los Angeles December 1st

hotel news

tommie Hollywood Hyatt

blank

blank

December 2, 2021 – tommie Hollywood Hyatt – Hyatt Hotels Corporation [NYSE: H] and Relevant Group today announced the opening of tommie Hollywood, a lifestyle hotel located in the heart of Hollywood near Sunset Boulevard.

The property joins the JdV by Hyatt brand and appeals to the modern spirited traveler looking for authenticity, originality, and convenience. tommie Hollywood offers 212 guestrooms across nine floors and more than 15,000 square feet of dynamic food and beverage space including KA’TEEN, the hotel’s feature restaurant by celebrated chef Wes Avila, and Desert 5 Spot, a 7,000-square-foot rooftop pool and lounge. This highly anticipated project is owned by Relevant Group in collaboration with Steinberg Hart for architecture and interior design from Studio Collective with Ten Five Hospitality managing food and beverage operations.

tommie Hollywood Hyatt

Local design firm, Studio Collective, developed tommie Hollywood’s casual, contemporary direction to abide by the notion of duality: cultural, temporal and natural.

Spaces are led with a midcentury modern touch, inspired by the Los Angeles case study homes of the late 1950s and 1960s collated from architectural titans. Exposed structural steel post columns, natural white oak, natural stone, blackened steel, and hand-made ceramics accompany the time-worn furnishings to emphasize the tactile and celebrate the imperfect.

Upon arrival, an inviting sun-drenched lobby welcomes guests, accompanied by an expansive, steel-clad fireplace and enormous hand-carved wood relief artwork.

A hyperlocal art program brings Los Angeles’ proud creative community inward, with works from Bradley Duncan, Bruce Rubenstein, Valerie Wilcox and Ellie Pritts. The interior lobby beckons the pursuit of discovery and continues to leverage honest materials amidst communal workspaces with plush seating options. A ground-floor coffee bar sets the scene, which also opens to the exterior courtyard, offering cocktails into the afternoon and evening hours.

The lobby walls naturally open in several locations, allowing the interior lobby to dematerialize seamlessly into the spacious courtyard lounge. The mid-century modern touches are evident throughout with the use of resilient natural materials such as stone pavers, teak and cedar wood plank finishes and blackened steel hardware, that will patina naturally over time.

Comfortable, eclectic furnishings complete the lush garden setting and bring forth charming dining experiences to create a social oasis within the city.

Each room at tommie Hollywood is designed with purpose, offering a balance of style and function. Floor-to-ceiling windows let in a wash of natural light across each cozy space, while hardwood floors provide natural earth tones and a calming ambience.

The beds offer ultra-comfy mattresses, and expansive windows extend views of the city, or a dramatic vantage point of the famed Hollywood Hills. tommie Hollywood also has seven one-bedroom 388-square-foot suites on the top floor. Each features a separate well-appointed living area, 12-foot ceilings, impressive city views, a sitting area, and one king bed.

A Dining and Entertainment Destination for the Creative Set

Two exceptional food and beverage experiences are offered at tommie Hollywood, created and managed by Ten Five Hospitality, and separately serve as buzzy destination points within Los Angeles.

Revered Angeleno native chef Wes Avila of Guerrilla Tacos helms KA’TEEN, the property’s signature restaurant. Spanning over 5,000 square feet of outdoor dining space and inspired by the Mayan city of Tulum, KA’TEEN pays homage to Yucatan Peninsula’s rich culinary history and serves as a lush refuge.

Whether it be for creative cocktails, decadent dinners, or a vibrant late-night social scene, KA’TEEN serves as a venue for joyful gatherings of all types.

The property also features a striking rooftop bar, Desert 5 Spot, named after the extraordinary and vibrant flower found in the Mojave Desert. Cactus and Yucca surround the venue, with hues of yellow and pink, capturing an aesthetic that reflects 1970s vintage Palm Springs with the eccentric charm of Pioneertown.

This open-air rooftop lounge offers 360-degree views of Los Angeles and is an inclusive community-driven space for the creative set who wish to linger and socialize. A curated calendar of live music performances and original evening programming from an in-house honkytonk band ensures that whether it’s sunset hour or a lively late-night affair, Desert 5 Spot is a welcome addition to Hollywood’s social scene.

Guest Convenience Embedded into the Property’s Ethos

Located adjacent to the new Thompson Hollywood as well as iconic city landmarks including the Sunset Strip, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Runyon Canyon, Griffith Observatory and the Capitol Records Building, tommie Hollywood sits at the very nexus of the city’s bustling technology and entertainment industries.

The property also features Hyatt’s first digital check-in experience, allowing guests to conveniently use their phone to create a room key at the designated key station in the lobby and seamlessly access their room.

Opening rates at tommie Hollywood start at $150 per night. To learn more or book a stay at tommie Hollywood, please visit tommiehollywood.com.

Guided by its purpose of care, Hyatt’s multi-layered Global Care & Cleanliness Commitment further enhances its operational guidance and resources around colleague and guest safety and peace of mind. More information on Hyatt’s commitment can be found here: hyatt.com/care-and-cleanliness.
