Indaba 2022 – tradeshow returns!

November 19, 2021 – The South Africa Tourism authority just announced that after the cancellation of two signature global trade shows due to the COVID-19 pandemic, South African Tourism is excited to once again host both Meetings Africa and Africa’s Travel Indaba.

The destination marketing organisation has today confirmed that the flagship business events and leisure trade shows will return next year, with both platforms being hosted as physical events with limited virtual components.

Indaba 2022

The last Meetings Africa was hosted in February 2020, just before the coronavirus outbreak, when it celebrated its 15th year anniversary.

Africa’s Travel Indaba did not take place in 2020 and 2021 due to global restrictions on movement and immigration regulations necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meetings Africa will take place from 28th February 2022 to 2nd March 2022 at the Sandton Convention Centre, in Johannesburg, while Africa’s Travel Indaba will be hosted from 2nd to 5th May 2022 at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban. Both events will have virtual participation capabilities, albeit to a limited extent.

As South African Tourism charges forward with its commitment to the recovery of the tourism sector, the return of these shows will promote and market the country’s business events hosting capability and showcase destination South Africa’s leisure tourism products and experiences. The hosting of these events will contribute to the country’s economy, as delegates from various parts of the world will attend these trade shows.

Over the recent past, South Africa has recorded a significant reduction in the number of new COVID-19 infections. The vaccination program is well under way as part of the South African government’s efforts to contain the spread of the virus. The country aims to have 70% of its adult population fully vaccinated by the end of 2021.

During his address to the nation on 30th September 2021, His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa moved South Africa to adjusted alert level 1, reduced the hours of curfew and increased the number of people permitted for gatherings up to 750 people for indoor and 2 000 people for outdoor gatherings providing a major boost for both for leisure travel as well as for the Business Events industry.

“We are very pleased to bring Meetings Africa and Africa’s Travel Indaba back. The need for physical events and face-to-face encounters is evident in both the industry and the public. The experiences over the last months have shown that on-location events can take place safely and successfully, and demonstrate how important they are for dialogue and exchange. We recently hosted Africa’s Travel and Tourism Summit, a hybrid format which was a well-executed and attended bringing the tourism sector together for a common purpose of reigniting the tourism sector” said Sthembiso Dlamini, Acting CEO of South African Tourism.

While Africa’s Travel and Tourism Summit was not a replacement for Meetings Africa and Africa’s Travel Indaba, it did provide a platform to showcase the African continent’s leisure tourism offerings and business event capabilities.

“Hosting Meetings Africa and Africa’s Travel Indaba will certainly show our exhibitors, buyers, and the world, that South Africa is open for business and that the South African tourism sector has world-class COVID-19 safety protocols in place to deliver on memorable experiences and events. South Africa is ready and well prepared to welcome delegates from across the world,” Dlamini concluded.

Registration details for delegate participation for these trade shows will be announced soon.

Valencia world design capital 2022

blank

blank

November 15, 2021 – The World Design Organisation (WDO) has recently announced that Valencia is to be granted the prestigious title:

Valencia World Design Capital 2022

This is the first time a Spanish city has received this accreditation and recognises the city’s uses of design as a tool to stimulate economic, social, cultural, and environmental development.

The designation highlights Valencia for the quality of its Mediterranean design and marks the beginning of a series of cultural events aimed to consolidate this legacy of design focusing on six strategic hubs in which action can be taken via design: health and wellbeing; education; innovation and economy; heritage and identity; equality, inclusion and diversity; and sustainability.

The “unanimous” decision from the WDO was based upon “the precision, rigour and professionalism” of Valencia’s candidature. Xavi Calvo, strategic co-director of the candidacy for Valencia, believes that design will ‘accelerate the processes of social transformation’ and hopes to embrace the opportunity in the fullest. Valencia has provided a plan and itinerary for their proposed projects that includes everything from industrial designs to stunning architecture. It will be in line with the city’s cultural agenda so that the public can be as involved with the works as much as possible.

Every month there will be one of four types of events taking place based upon a new theme: exhibitions, congresses, workshops, and conferences. The content of these events will be centred around pressing topics such as climate change, Mediterranean design, gender equality in design, the history of design, industrial development, design and nature, among others. Projects include DNA Ceramics, the Design Map, two projects entitled Lo por venir and Trampolín for the occupational inclusion of people with disabilities as well as many others that enhance the value of Valencian design heritage.

Belgrade International Tourism Fair 2022

blank

November 12 2021 – Belgrade International Tourism Fair wants to make you feel special in a city whose heart beats day-in and day-out.

After a successful business day, when the fair bustle subsides, know that you are not done yet, because Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, has always a special atmosphere in store for you.

This atmosphere is made up of interesting people who you will meet and discuss music, film, fashion, gastronomy – again business, because all those things simply make tourism fair so special.

Belgrade International Tourism fair

We are looking forward to seeing you at Belgrade Fair between 24 and 27 February 2022!

When something lasts for more than forty years, then it’s hard to say something is enchanting, refreshing, or perhaps new.

It may be sufficed to say: Here we are again and moving on, always here for you to make your business, as well as your private plans and dreams come true.

These dreams are usually about traveling, whether you are in charge of organizing them or perhaps traveling alone. In this day and age, travelling has more than ever become a way of life, an escape from reality and ever more so an opportunity to learn and see something new.

For all the said reasons, we will not list what the fair has to offer, instead we will simply remind you that… meeting old friends and associates followed by a firm handshake and sincere smile fills your heart with joy, whilst new acquaintances provide you with enough energy to see your new ideas and business opportunities through.

Many people from across the globe, different cultures and habits from more than 50 countries will make you feel like a cosmopolitan. Delicious food and fine wines will trigger all your senses. Do not expect a “sterile” atmosphere, as the Balkan soul is difficult to tame, it seeks music and rhythm from the stands and the stage. This year’s country’s partner Egypt is inviting you to re-visit, discover and share your experiences with your loved ones.

# B2Belgradefair2021

Belgrade Tourism Fair has been maintaining tradition for 40 years and fulfilling world standards of business, building partnership relations with exhibitors and business visitors. Beijing Winter Olympics – fully prepared for in civil aviation, security, snow making and broadcasting

Statements from various departments exhibit full preparation for and confidence in the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics, as authorities in civil aviation, public security and broadcasting, and teams for snowmaking and meteorology said they are fully prepared.

Beijing Winter Olympics

The Global Times learned from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on Wednesday that Beijing Capital International Airport will be the only official port of entry for the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

The airport will use T3-D independent closed terminals as entry channels for international arrivals, and T3-C and T3-E terminals for international departures with closed-loop management, Sun Jianying, an official from the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, said on Wednesday.

From October 3 to November 9, a total of 85 flights related to the Olympics including 49 arrivals, 33 departures, and one freighter with a total of 2,380 passengers were processed with high efficiency and tight closed-loop control, data from the CAAC showed.

The Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau said on Tuesday that the security work for the Winter Olympics has entered the competition stage.

Some of the venues for the Beijing Winter Olympics are conducting test events and taking on other events. Since October 4, the security team at the National Sliding Center has entered closed-loop management for security work, with staff manning their posts 24 hours a day and conducting daily safety checks.

“We use the test events as a practice ground for Winter Olympic Games security and work, according to the standards and requirements of the Games,” an officer from the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau said.

The snowmaking team, the most important supporting team for snow sports, will use high technology to produce high-quality and environmentally friendly snow for the Games.

Through numerous tests, the Beijing Winter Olympics snowmaking team established the territorial parameters of the Yanqing and Zhangjiakou competition areas to create “ice-like snow” adapted to the characteristics of Beijing’s continental monsoon climate.

In order to cope with possible extreme weather, the team experimented with early snowmaking, which is to make and store snow beforehand in low temperatures and use it in the following winter.

Meteorological security is another field that the organizing committee has stressed, Wang Gengchen, head of the research team for the Beijing Winter Olympics’ meteorological security, told the Global Times on Wednesday.

Since the venues of the Beijing Winter Olympics are scattered and some of them are located in the mountains, there is a big challenge to weather forecasting, Wang said.

“The Beijing Winter Olympics has set up an experts’ team specializing in meteorology, which is strictly adopting different forecasting strategies for different venues to guarantee meteorological security refinement.

“Currently, the meteorological security experts’ team has conducted several batches of drills and has been on standby.”

In late October, China Central Television (CCTV) launched a new channel, CCTV-16, which is specially dedicated to Olympics-related programs, including live broadcasts.

As of November 7, the channel had a cumulative audience of over 56.43 million viewers, and it is available in all 31 provincial-level regions in the Chinese mainland, covering nearly 300 million subscribers.

In terms of broadcasting, the channel uses advanced 5G, 8K and artificial intelligence technologies. Currently, it broadcasts other special quality programs, as well as social and cultural activities to warm up for the Winter Olympics.

China’s State Language Commission has created the world’s largest multilingual terminology corpus for the Winter Olympics, covering eight languages and including every term related to the competition events of the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, the first of its kind in the history of language services for the Winter Olympics.

The Beijing Winter Olympics will take place from February 4-20, 2022 in Beijing, its Yanqing district, and neighboring Zhangjiakou in Hebei Province.
